May 12 Motorcycle Awareness Month

Today we are discussing riding in the rain. In many places in order to ride your motorcycle you need to embrace riding in the rain as a normal thing.  I don’t know many who love to ride in downpours but a nice gentle rain on a hot day can be nice.

In many pasts of the United States, we get pop-up thunderstorms that can hit without warning, so even if you don’t want to ride in the rain you may end up having to do so.  Most of the time if you have a warning and you have time to put on rain gear, riding in the rain is not too bad.   It is not fun to have to pull off on the side of the road to try to rain gear on.   The most dangerous time is when the rain is just starting.  That is when the roads are the slickest.   I also recommend that you don’t ride if there is lightning.   Remember when you are on your bike you might be the tallest object around.  Last year in Florida a rider was hit by lightning on the interstate.

There are many good tips for riding in the rain but other writers have already put that into words, so I am including some very good articles for you to go read.
