Staying Hydrated on the Road

It’s a hot summer day, the sun is brilliant without a cloud in the sky. It’s hot and humid and you have places to go. I’ve heard stories from bikers about “that one time I almost passed out” or when they got off the bike and had to sit down because their head was swimming. Dehydration and heat stroke are no joke, they can lead to brain damage and even death. Risk of death from heat stroke is 60% higher when non exercise induced. Even mild dehydration manifests in ways that are dangerous on the road. Less mental acuity, slowed reactions, increased fatigue and grumpiness. Riding should be fun and safe! By the time you notice these symptoms, it's already too late and you will need to break for a while until your rehydrated. Staying hydrated is important, and even […]

Independence Day – Celebrating our Freedom

Independence Day in the United States of America is a long celebrated day dating back to the 18th century. On July 2nd 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of Independence and on July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted. The Declaration of Independence set out the ideals and principles of a just and fair government. It was the Constitution which set forth the rules by which this fair and just government would function. It was the American Revolution which brought about this independence, the blood and sweat of our people who paved the way to freedom. While we often talk about fireworks and BBQ's for July 4th, we don't often talk about the men and women that paid the price for our freedom almost 250 years ago or the men and women who continue to guarantee that […]

Fourth of July – Fireworks Safety!!!

On this Independence Day some of us are out enjoying our families, cookouts, and Fireworks!!   I just ask that if you are going to enjoy fireworks please do so safely.  Ideally, you should leave fireworks up to the professionals and just go enjoy a public show. If you do this, you still need to take some precautions. 1.  stay a safe distance from where they are lighting the fireworks off.  2. If you have small children or anyone with ear issues please make sure they have ear protection.  Fireworks are loud and they will not enjoy the show if they are in pain from their ears.  3. Please leave Animals at home, unless they are trained to deal with loud noises and flashing lights.  Most animals do not understand what is happening and they get scared. (Even at home, please […]

Child Safety – A Change in Strategy

Five Moves… That’s All It Takes!

On my journey to find the best self-defense system, I uncovered what I intuitively already thought was true. This truth is the simplest move or technique is usually the best and most effective. You can search high and low and learn the most intricate and deadliest martial art out there, but what good is it going to do if you can't perform it under stress or if it takes ten years to become proficient at it? The largest barrier to women's self-defense and to self-defense in general, is your mental state. Everyone reacts differently but most people will initially freeze up when faced with a life-threatening situation. The only way to work past this mental state is through realistic practice with a partner and by knowing the most vulnerable areas to attack on another human being. What follows are what […]
