Lead-Acid vs Lithium Batteries

When it’s time to purchase a new battery for your motorcycle do you wonder which type, size or voltage do I need? How many cold cranking amps do I need? Motorcycle manufacturers provide recommended CCA Ratings for each model they produce. You can check your current battery or the owner’s manual for that information. There’s a lot to be said about the lead-acid battery as they have been around a long time and are known for their reliability and affordability. But what if I told you a Lithium based battery is an option? I’m sure you would have many questions. Of course, when you think of lithium-ion batteries you may have heard stories of the batteries catching fire. These types of batteries are typically found in small electronic devices such as cell phones and laptops. Although somewhat new to the […]

Quad Lock Phone Mounts

Quad Lock Phone Mounts We spend a whole lot of money on our phones, and we take some amazing pictures to document our adventures with our sisters.  Let’s protect our phones and talk about phone mounts on our motorcycles. This is something I didn’t really think about until I upgraded to an iPhone13, started to read forums and talked to our sister Brooklyn.  When Apple introduced its closed-loop AF (autofocus) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), which allows the user to take sharp photos even if you accidentally move the camera, it makes the cameras in the phone more susceptible to vibrations.  Apple recommends that you do not attach your iPhone to motorcycles because the vibration of a bike will damage the camera, Exposure to vibrations, like those generated by high-powered motorcycle engines, might impact iPhone cameras - Apple Support. Don’t worry […]

Ten Little Motorcycles

Ten Little Motorcycles A Poem TEN LITTLE MOTORCYCLISTS reprinted from the Wings of Gold M/C newsletter 10 little motorcyclists, cruising down the line, one had a heavy hand, and then there were 9. Speed limits are set for your safety. 9 little motorcyclists, the hour was getting late, one dozed a moment, and then there were 8. A tired rider is a dangerous rider. 8 little motorcyclists, and the evening seemed like heaven, one showed his riding skills, and then there were 7. Ride sensibly and sanely at all times, a motorcycle is no place for a clown. 7 little motorcyclists, their lives were full of kicks, one bought a bottle, and then there were 6. Gasoline and alcohol are a deadly mix.  Never drink and ride. 6 little motorcyclists, impatient to arrive, one jumped a traffic light, and then […]

Life Lessons

Life Lessons Life Lessons learned from Motorcycling   So, it is almost the end of Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month. Not that our promoting and practicing of Motorcycle Safety and Awareness is going to end just because the month did, we must promote and practice 24/7/365.  Anyway, today let’s talk about life lessons we learn from motorcycling. These are not in any order but just how they came to me. I am sure there are more, and I will put links at the bottom that have more information.  Fear can be both good and bad. You don’t want it to stop you, but you can use it to make you a better rider.  Everyone Falls. You just get back up and move on.  Sometimes the journey is more important than the destination.  You can always learn something new no matter […]

Protect Your Feet! Footware Basics

Information on Motorcycle Footware I am going to talk to you about choosing proper footwear for when you are riding. I will try to explain why you should wear good boots when riding and give suggestions on what to look for. When riding a motorcycle, you should wear over the ankle sturdy boots that have good traction. This is not just to look like a “biker” but also to save you from injury. Believe me if you have an injury to the ankle is takes a long time to heal and sometimes it is always a weak joint after the first injury. I know from experience. A good pair of motorcycle boots will reduce the impact on your feet, ankles, and legs should you be involved in a crash. Motorcycles produce heat from the engine and the exhaust pipes. Boots […]

Essential Tools to Keep on Your Motorcycle!

Motorcycle Tools Tools that may be useful to have on your Motorcycle. Most riders who ride older bikes tend to carry tools because they know they may need them. But even a new bike might need something minor done to it that will require tools. Some bikes come with a tool kit but those kits don’t always have everything you need. You can get some multitools that will take the place of several tools, but they don't always work as well as if you had the actual tool for the job. Electrical and Duct tape Knife Zips ties Hex and Torq wrenches Tire pressure gauge Flat head screwdriver Phillips screwdriver Pliers and/or wire cutters Adjustable wrench Spark Plug tool Small flashlight Bungee cords Jump Box (Juno Jumper or similar) Optional Additional Items: Reflective safety vest Road reflectors Work gloves Kickstand […]

Motorcycle Safety Tips During Road Construction Season

Motorcycle Safety Tips During Road Construction Season Motorcycle Safety Tips During Road Construction Season | National General Insurance Motorcycle Safety Tips During Road Construction Season Watch for uneven pavement, as well as rough or grooved surfaces. Before repaving begins, surfaces need to be prepped properly, and this can create dangerous riding conditions. Be careful and reduce your speed if you encounter these pavement conditions, as they can cause your bike to tilt your bike unexpectedly or pull to one side suddenly. Pay attention to cones and barrels. Although they are commonly used to route traffic in construction zones, cones and barrels are often hit by cars or trucks accidentally, causing them to tip over or be pushed into your lane. Watch carefully for these hazards, which can be dangerous if you accidently hit them. Be aware of sudden traffic stops. When traffic congestion […]

Staying Hydrated on the Road

It’s a hot summer day, the sun is brilliant without a cloud in the sky. It’s hot and humid and you have places to go. I’ve heard stories from bikers about “that one time I almost passed out” or when they got off the bike and had to sit down because their head was swimming. Dehydration and heat stroke are no joke, they can lead to brain damage and even death. Risk of death from heat stroke is 60% higher when non exercise induced. Even mild dehydration manifests in ways that are dangerous on the road. Less mental acuity, slowed reactions, increased fatigue and grumpiness. Riding should be fun and safe! By the time you notice these symptoms, it's already too late and you will need to break for a while until your rehydrated. Staying hydrated is important, and even […]

Independence Day – Celebrating our Freedom

Independence Day in the United States of America is a long celebrated day dating back to the 18th century. On July 2nd 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of Independence and on July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted. The Declaration of Independence set out the ideals and principles of a just and fair government. It was the Constitution which set forth the rules by which this fair and just government would function. It was the American Revolution which brought about this independence, the blood and sweat of our people who paved the way to freedom. While we often talk about fireworks and BBQ's for July 4th, we don't often talk about the men and women that paid the price for our freedom almost 250 years ago or the men and women who continue to guarantee that […]
